いきなりの話になりますが、そもそも額縁は芸術品や工芸品として扱われにくい存在で、芸術家・工芸家として額縁作品を発表する作家も多くは確立されていません。

その要因の一つに、額縁だけでは作品として完結していないとの認識が一般的だからではないかなと思います。

ヴァザーリさんや、ジョットさんなどより以前の頃は、芸術家は職人の色が強く、額縁は壁の一部でしょう？的なものでしたが、いつの間にか美術は宗教的な面から飛躍して、人々に求められる存在になり、額縁は絵を待つ存在になったことが、一般の認識に影響してると思います。

一般の認識などおいそれと変えれるもんではないですし、仕方ないんですが、それでも額縁というものが、ひとつの完結された作品として存在できるのか、ずっと考えてきました。そこで、是非のその先に向かって挑戦をしようと思い、アーティストとして作品を作り始めました。

いつか認識を変える作品を創作して、美術・博物館に収まる日を心に描いて制作に没頭してます。

まるでこのお話は、昭和のガキんちょが将来なりたい人は、仮面ライダーって言うてるみたいな話ですね。

What is a frame artist? I have always felt that frames are a type of work that is difficult to categorize as a certain art or a certain way.

I think this is probably because a picture frame alone is generally perceived as an incomplete work of art.

Before Vasari and Giotto, artists were seen as skilled craftsmen, and picture frames were seen as just a part of the wall. But before we knew it, art had made the leap from a religious aspect to something people wanted, and picture frames became something that waited for the painting. I think that this has influenced the general perception.

Public perception is not something that can be changed easily, and it can't be helped, but I had been thinking for a while about whether picture frames could exist as completed works of art, or whether they could inspire viewers. So I decided to take on the challenge that lay beyond that, and began creating works as an artist.

I know that this is a silly thing to do and that people will laugh at me, but I am devoting myself to my work, hoping that one day I will create a work that will change people's perceptions and have it displayed in an art museum.

My current enthusiasm is the same as when a little kid says, "When I grow up, I want to be a superhero on TV."
